Jamshedpur: Adityapur-based NIT Jamshedpur have developed a solar powered hybrid vehicle that has won accolades at a recent national level competition. Team Revanta, a 25-member team from NIT Jamshedpur in Adityapur won four awards and was been ranked in the top five institutes across the country at the Imperial Society for Innovative Engineers (ISIE) organised Electric Solar Vehicle Championship.
The event held between March 28 and April 2 was hosted by Vishnu College of Engineering at Bhimawaram, Andhra Pradesh. According to information, Team Revanta won the Light weight Award, runners up award for endurance and also received the green mobility award and an appreciation award for E’lan–the electric and solar driven hybrid car.
The team also won Rs 20,000 as a cash reward. Each team had to design and manufacture a single seated solar racing car under ISIE Design Restriction so as to compete with other teams all over the country. This helps the students to face real-world engineering design projects and other related challenges.
‘ELAN’-is the name of the car they built. It stands for energy, style, and enthusiasm, the perfect name for the perfect car. The whole build took up to three months and cost a total of 1.5 lakh INR. Building an electric car is no walk in the park, months of dedication and hard work had to be put in.
The main focus of the team was to make the car as light as possible, they used materials that were light but strong at the same time. Getting the parts delivered was another herculean task, the motors were ordered from Mumbai, the solar panels from China, the pipes from Kolkata and only high-quality parts was used for the build of Elan.
The team members that contributed to this effort are Gaurav Kumar Singh,Vikrant Amrit,Indrajeet Kumar,Roshan Ramkrishnan,Sourabh Kumar,Ankesh Gupta,Aman Gupta from 3rd years n selective 10 students from 2nd year. NIT spokesperson, Deepak Chourasia said that each team has to design and manufacture a single seated solar racing car under the ISIE design restriction so as to compete with other teams all over the country. These events and competitions help students to face real-world engineering design projects and other related challenges.
