Jalpaiguri’s NGO Organises Bhai Dooj For Home’s Children


Jalpaiguri: Jalpaiguri’s NGO Spandan every year arranges for Bhai Dooj for the last 16 years for the boys of Korok Home.

This year too, the occasion will be arranged at the Home’s own auditorium from the morning. The Home residents are busy making card from the morning which they would gift to their sisters. Papu Saha got lost in Assam’s Jorhat. He is staying in this home and taking ‘Phonta’ for the last 8 years. He said, “There is no scope of taking blessings from sister at home. I feel so good taking phonta here at the Home. I wait the entire year for this day to come.”

The sisters of the Home will be giving Phonta to Kanai Saha Gupta, Aniruddhya Banerjee, Bangladesh’s Raihan Hussai, Khalek Ali, Biplob Roy and 150 people. Arati Das, Pallabi Chetri, Ankita Thapa, Rumpa Khatun will give phonta to the brothers of the home.

On behalf of the organisers, Sukalyan Deb said, “This year our occasion of Bhai Phonta falls in the 16th year. People from the city help us in this work. The sisters gift their brothers pen, books and sweets. The menu for lunch is rice, dal, fritters, fish, meat, chutney and sweets. Total budget is almost 50 thousand rupees. Through this occasion, we are trying to send the message of brotherhood.”

Home’s super Debabrata Debnath said, “The residents are busy with making arrangements for Bhai Phonta. They are making cards in their own hands. Apart from being a social event, it is also spreading the message of brotherhood. There are 150 residents along with 8 Bangladeshis.
