Murshidabad: Just as Chandannagar, Kagram of Murshidabad district also celebrates Jagadharti puja which was started 181 years back by Jagannath Mukherjee. He was so inspired after seeing the Jagadharti puja in Krishnanagar that he started celebrating it back at kagram.
The number of Pujas increased with time as well as the popularity so much that today it has become the main festival of Kagram. The people of the village looks forward to this festival which lasts for four days.
The main attraction of the festival is the Mukherjee’s House Puja. Animal offerings of goat and Buffalo are made to the goddess, similar to Durga Puja rituals. Bhog in the form of khichdi is served to almost 2000 people who come to see the deity. A grand mela is te result of the excitement shown by the people. People come in from different places to open their stalls.
