ITI Student Murder Case: TMC Leader Tapas Mallick Arrested


Diamond Harbour:  ITI student murder main accused Panchayat Upa-pradhan and Trinamool leader Tapas Mallick  has been arrested by Duttapukur police on Thursday night from Bamungachi area.  Tapas Mallick was going to Barasat from Ashokenagar by car when he was arrested. His close aide Billu has also been arrested for harbouring fugitive Tapas.

The police conducted a Naka-checking at Bamongachi four point crossing and then he was arrested.  Police also said that the tower location of his mobile phone was also followed. He was arrested after three days. Tapas will be taken to the Diamond harbor police station at night.

Police have so far arrested four people, including a woman, in the case. Alleging police inaction, a mob on Wednesday had attacked Mallick’s residence and ransacked the homes of three others. None of them were at home during the attack. This was after Purkait’s body was brought to his village, Haridanga in South-24 Parganas.

On Thursday, actor-turned-BJP leader Roopa Ganguly visited Kaushik’s residence in Mandir Bazar. “Tapas Mallick and his friends should be hanged… I saw my son die right in front of my eyes,” Kaushik’s mother, Chandra Purkait, said.

On May 9, Kaushik had come to the residence of his aunt, Sandhya Halder, at Bahadurpur in Diamond Harbour. Out on a stroll in the evening, he was mistaken for a cattle lifter and beaten severely. He later was announced brought dead on arrival at the hospital. Police have been posted outside Halder’s residence.
