Mumbai:According to the sponsors of the tournament, ISL-II will kick off on October 3 and continue till December 20. Chennai and Kochi are in the fray to host the opening ceremony of the second edition of the tournament. Based on the large turn out of the crowd at these stadiums, the ISL authorities have decided in the favour of going with the South based venues to kick off with the million dollar tournament.
However, the venue for the final -slotted for December 20 has not been confirmed as yet. A couple of weeks have been increased in the ISL calendar as coaches like Zico and Antonio Lopez Habas complained of the cramped schedule last time. The players were prone to injury due to the schedule.
The Champions League T20 cricket, also televised by Star, doesn’t end till the last week of September. And although there is no confirmation on either the dates, or the format, for the T20 tournament, there is unanimity that the tournament will be played in some form or the other. The organizers also cannot extend the ISL beyond the third week of December as most international players want to spend time with their families during Christmas.
