IRCTC to set up executive lounge at Railway Stations


Howrah: After becoming a free Wi Fi enabled station Howrah will be having an executive lounge to cater to the high flying generation of the times. IRCTC has approved the setting up of executive lounges at three stations  Howrah, Sealdah and New Jalpaiguri, The executive lounges will be set up in the main area of the platform itself. “The AC lounges will provide services like wash and change, Wi-Fi, television, newspaper/book stand, buffet services, concierge services for pre-departure and post-arrival assistance to passengers on payment. The lounges will be set up by IRCTC, at its own cost. It shall supervise/control the same while the ownership will remain with the Railways. However, service provider may be deputed for specific activities on need basis,” the Railway Board circular states.

The lounge will act as a rest room and will help the passengers to recover from tiredness and recover the fatigue taken up during the journey, said a Railway Official. Instead of going to a hotel, they can choose to freshen up and change at the lounges and grab a bite before leaving for work. New Jalpaiguri being a popular gateway of the North Bengal will also serve the passengers to start a journey to the hills, an IRCTC official said.

The lounges will be operated on a 60:40 revenue sharing basis between IRCTC and the Railways.
