Iraq will attack IS to free Mosul


Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said that the country’s armed forces are preparing to launch an attack on IS to retake the northern city of Mosul from the militants.

Mosul was captured by the IS in June last year. with the help of US led airstrikes, soldiers and Shia militiamen have begun retaking territory north of Baghdad while Kurdish Peshmerga forces have made advances around Mosul.

In an interview Mr. Abadi said that the Iraqi government forces were ‘planning an offensive on Mosul in the next few months.’ He however did not specify the exact time of the offensive.
