Kolkata: Over the last few years, investments in food technology and bakery technology in Bengal have increased by several times, said the secretary of the State Food Processing Department recently during the inauguration of the trade fair, International FoodTech India – 2018. Its theme this time was ‘Bakery Tech and Hotel Tech’. Along with investment has increased employment.
The last five years have seen an investment of Rs 350 crore in the organised sector and Rs 150 crore in the unorganised sector in food technology, including bakery technology. Most of this investment has been in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
The official also said that every investment of Rs 10 crore sees the employment of 50 to 80 people.
The trade fair ran from November 16 to 18 at Science City, and was attended by 127 organisations from India and from China, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Italy. It was a huge success.
