Washington: The White House has been locked down after an intruder jumped the fence as President Barack Obama and his family celebrated Thanksgiving.
The incident comes just months after security was upgraded at the White House. The man cleared the fence near the briefing room and West Wing areas of the presidential mansion on Thursday afternoon, media report.
The intruder was quickly apprehended by armed US Secret Service officers who then conducted a sweep of the area, according to reports.
The man was possibly holding some sort of sign or folder. According to his public schedule, Mr Obama is at the White House with his family to celebrate the US holiday.
America’s first family was expected to dine on thyme-roasted turkey, honey-baked ham and prime rib. The incident comes just months after security was upgraded at the White House, including spikes being added to a perimeter fence.
The steps were taken following embarrassing security breaches at the home of the US President.
