International Yoga Day : Amsterdam Celebrates 4th International Day Of Yoga


Amsterdam: People in large numbers gathered at Amsterdam’s prestigious Museumplein and celebrated 4th International Day of Yoga on June 17. The Yoga camp was organised by Indian Embassy. Netherlands Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Indian envoy to Netherlands Venu Rajamony and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar attended the camp. Later, cultural programs were held showcasing Indian dance forms and musical sessions.

It saw participation of a large number of Dutch and Indian dignitaries. The celebrations which were organised at the initiative of the Embassy of India comprised a wellness festival with mass yoga demonstrations, meditation sessions, music, dance, and vegetarian as well as vegan food.Following the inauguration, a group session of traditional Indian yoga was followed by a talk and meditation session led by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Wellknown Dutch yoga teacher, Johan Noorloos of The New Yoga School, Amsterdam conducted a workshop. The grand finale in the evening was a music concert ’The Soul Shanti Concert’ featuring violin maestro Dr L Subramaniam and Bollywood playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy.
