Paris: French police have arrested four people in Montpellier, including a teenage girl, who were reportedly plotting a terror attack in Paris. Bomb-making material was found at one of their addresses.
Officers from France’s counter-terrorism organisation SDAT made the four arrests in Montpellier and Sete on the southern French coast early on Friday morning.
Those in custody included a 22-year-old man and his 16 year-old girlfriend, both known to authorities for connections with radical Islam, after authorities found TATP explosives and other bomb-making materials in his home.
According to French media site LCI the four suspects were on a suicide bombing mission on a tourist site in the French capital, however this has not been confirmed by
France remains on high alert over possible Islamist militant attacks. More than 230 people have died in a series of assaults since the beginning of 2015 and the country has been under state of emergency rules since November the same year.
Tourist sites in Paris have been forced to up security and Friday’s raids come just one week after an Egyptian man shouting Allahu Akbar attacked French soldiers patrolling outside the world famous Louvre museum in Paris.
