Washington: Anonymous has warned that people should start preparing for a third World War as heightened tensions between the US and North Korea threatens to hit boiling point.

The shadowy online collective said the antagonism between North Korea, the US and South Korea is gearing up to a full-fledged battle between the super powers. It warned that “all the signs” of an upcoming war are present and told viewers to “prepare for what comes next”.

“All the signs of a looming war on the Korean peninsula are surfacing,” the group said, “as each country moves strategic pieces into place.”

The group, which has declared its opposition to Donald Trump and terrorist groups, said the war would be different from the ongoing battles in the Middle East, including Syria and Yemen, as “other nations will be forced to choose sides”. It also said it would be more “brutal” than the previous World Wars.

The hacking collective did not warn of any action, but has a dedicated online following and claims it wants to spread facts that governments refuse to tell the public.

“Unlike past world wars, although there will be ground troops, the battle is likely to be fierce, brutal and quick. It will also be globally devastating both on the environmental and economic levels.”

The sinister warning comes after weeks of escalating tensions between the US and North Korea following Donald Trump’s inauguration. International focus on the countries’ tense relationship has redoubled since Kim Jong-Un threatened “imminent” war against the US.

Trump has responded by saying he is willing to use military force to stop North Korea from testing nuclear weapons.

North Korea this week accused the US and South Korean of an unsuccessful assassination attempt against its leader amid reports that it could be preparing for further nuclear tests.

Anonymous has been vocal in its criticism of Trump in the past, declaring “total war” against him ahead of his election then threatening in the week of his inauguration that he would “regret the next four years”.  The group has made similar threats against controversial groups including Isil and the Ku Klux Klan.
