Rio de Janeiro: India beat Argentina 2-1 in a men’s hockey Pool B match to secure a place in the quarterfinals of 2016 Rio Olympics here on Tuesday.

Chinglensana (8th minute) and Kothajit Khadangbam (35th) were the scorers for India. Gonzalo Peillat (49th) reduced the margin for Argentina at Olympic Hockey Stadium. It is India’s second win in three Pool B matches, after beating Ireland 3-2 and getting beaten by Germany 1-2.

India have reached the knock-out round of the Olympics after 36 years. India won gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics but after that they failed to make any impact at the Summer Games. This is also India’s first win against Argentina since 2009.
