India’s First ‘Toy Library’ Inaugurated in Delhi

New Delhi: BJP spokesperson and Member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated India’s first ‘Toy Library’ in New Delhi on Friday, on the occasion of party stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday. The complex, named ‘Atal Toy Library’, was inaugurated at the MCD School in Sector 9 in south Delhi’s R K Puram. The Toy Association of India is a part of the initiative.

“Toy libraries answer critical needs the families face today and offer an additional dimension to India’s educational program by providing another environment of abundant play opportunity supplemented by a collection of adaptive toys and a platform for discussion among parents, teachers and other key stake holders,” Lekhi said after dedicating the complex to the children of the school.

“Toys are the tools of learning, and every child should have access to them. Toys allow kids to learn about themselves and develop skills. They can relax and create their own opportunities to learn and grow. There are children who might not necessarily have access to economic means that may provide for a childhood that is filled with toys,” the BJP leader said.

The aim of this library is to cater to the needs of children and provide them with the access to toys of their choice. This libarary will offer toys to approximately 300 children. Lekhi announced she plans to open more such libraries in other MCD schools which come under her New Delhi parliamentary constituency.
