Kolkata: India ranked 133rd, far behind Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and China in the global list of the happiest countries, according to a United Nations report released on Wednesday.
Pakistan was at 75th position. Nepal stood at 101, Bhutan at 97, Bangladesh at 115 while Sri Lanka was at 116. India’s other testy neighbor, China, was also far ahead at 86th spot.
2018 World Happiness Report ranked 156 countries according to things such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, social freedom, generosity and absence of corruption.
Finland has overtaken Norway to become the happiest nation on earth, according to a UN report. The 2018 World Happiness Report also charts the steady decline of the US as the world’s largest economy grapples with a crisis of obesity, substance abuse and depression.
For the first time the UN also examined the happiness levels of immigrants in each country, and found Finland also scored highest.
