Sydney: After India won at Adelaide, fans from India and Pakistan exchanged blows at Sydney’s Merrylands RSL Club on the evening.
Fans from both the countries had gathered to be a part of the Mega Match and cheer for their favourite team. But after India beat Pakistan by 76, their sixth victory in a row in World Cup matches against the arch rivals, emotions got the better of rival fans.
“Four people were taken to hospital with a range of injuries after a wild brawl broke out between about 40 fans watching the match on a big screen at the club on Military Road about 9.30 pm,” a report in a Sydney daily reported.
“A witness said the brawl spilled out on to the street before police and paramedics arrived. Police said three people were taken to Westmead Hospital and one was taken to Auburn Hospital with a range of injuries that were not life-threatening,” the report added.
The New South Wales Police will closely look at the CCTV footage for their investigation.
