India fails to win against a team ranked 174

Guam: 2 ( McDonald 35′,  Nicklaw 64′)

India: 1 ( Sunil Chhetri- 90+ 3′)

Hagåtña: Guam pulled off an impressive win against India, ranked 33 places above them. The home side scored in either half to topple India 2-1 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Chhetri’s injury time goal was the only consolation for the ‘Men in Blue’.

Guam thoroughly outplayed their more fancied rivals to complete a comprehensive 2-1 win over Stephen Constantine side. The nature of the scoreline does a disservice to the home side’s performance as they never really looked in any sort of trouble against the 141-ranked Indian side. Chhetri scored his 50th goal in national colors in the last minute of the match. Before that, McDonald and Nicklaw scored in either halves to put Guam firmly in the driving seat. Guam have now won two matches on the trot to top the table in Group D. India, who play Iran next on September 8, are bottom with two defeats in as many games.
