India Declared Free Of Bird Flu


Mumbai: Department Of Animal Husbandry has declared India free from Avian Influenza(H5N1) ,popularly known as Bird Flu from September 5.
The notification issued by the Ministry of Agriculture stated that the last case of Bird Flu was reported on May 9 in Humnabad, Bidar in Karnataka.There has been no further outbreak since.

The control measures taken were stamping out entire poultry population, destroyed eggs, feed, litter and other infected materials restricted access of poultry to and from the area of outbreak, sanitization of infected premises.
The Centre has stressed on surveillance in bird flu prone areas bordering infected countries and also areas visited by migratory birds.
