London: India won the Women’s World Cup semi-final against Australia by 36 runs to reach the final. India will now play in the finals against England. The Player of the Match award went to none other than India’s Harmanpreet Kaur who hit an incredible 171 not out. Indian had won the toss and elected to bat first.
India beat Australia by 36 runs to set up summit clash with hosts England on Sunday. Chasing a massive 282-run target in a rain-curtailed 42-overs-a-side, Australia were bowled out for 245 in 40.1 overs as India registered a comprehensive win.
Alex Blackwell (90 off 56 balls) and Elyse Villani (75 off 58 balls) hit quick-fire fifties but the target turned out to be too much for the defending champions. Deepti Sharma (3/59) took three wickets while pacers Jhulan Goswami (2/35) and Shikha Pandey (2/17) scalped two wickets each for India. Earlier, riding on Harmanpreet Kaur’s majestic 171 not out India posted 281/4 in their 42 overs. Kaur smacked as many as seven sixes and 20 fours in her career-best 115-ball knock, which turned out to be a match-winning effort.
