Kolkata: Union minister Babul Supriyo has reacted to his name being dragged into the ongoing controversy regarding the arrest of actor-turned-Trinamool MP Tapas Paul.
Speaking to a leading national daily, Supriyo said, “Let’s understand that Tapas-da is being accused of inappropriate dealing with Rose Valley by CBI and they claim to have incriminating evidence against him as is being highlighted by all news channels. Should CBI find any such evidence against any of us, from Tarun Mazumder to Goutam Ghose, from Soumitro-da (Soumitra Chatterjee) to Kaushik Ganguly, from Prosenjit-da (Prosenjit Chatterjee) to Rituparna (Sengupta) amongst many others who worked with Rose Valley in their capacity as an entertainer, it may summon any of us.”
However, he didn’t approve of being singled out. “To single me out just because I am in an opposition party against whom Mamata Banerjee is currently at loggerheads, is highly inappropriate and insensitive to me personally, especially given the fact that it’s coming from the CM’s chair. Let’s not forget that a criminal has no party colours and everyone, including Tapas-da has the right to fight his innocence in court,” he signed off.
