Jalpaiguri: An old traditional temple in Jalpaiguri, the temple of Goddess ‘Jogomaya’. Every year on the night of Kali puja the temple premises is crowded with pilgrims.

Here the puja is performed according to Kalika Puran. Four additional priests assists the chief priest of the temple in performing ritual worship.Sixteen varieties of offerings are presented in front of Maa Jogomaya here.

The most significant part of the temple is the fish that is offered to the deity here.The fish which is offered here is ‘Boal maach’ commonly known as helicopter catfish or wallago catfish.Worship at this temple was started 92 years ago. Earlier, animal sacrifice was performed in the night of Kali Puja. Although the tradition of animal sacrifice was stopped 30 years ago. But this year the Puja Committee has brought back the ancient tradition of sacrifice for the welfare of the temple. The temple committee members said that a goat will be sacrificed this year.

This temple was started 92 years ago. Before the animal sacrifice on the night of Kali Puja. The temple committee members said that a text will be offered.On behalf of the temple committee, Anjan Banerjee said, “Every day our devotees visit this temple. And especially during the time of Kali Puja, we are unable to control the crowd of the devotees. This year, according to the calendar, the new moon starts on November 6 at 10.01 pm on Tuesday. At that time, this ancient tradition will be flag off again in the temple.”
