Kabul: Six people were killed and many injured after a vehicle sparked off an improvised explosive device, causing a massive blast in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province on Monday.

“The incident took place at around 8.10 pm along a road in Nikashalli area of Shah Wali Kot district, which left six people aboard the vehicle killed on the spot,” Xinhua quoted spokesperson Samim Khpalwak as saying.

Nearly 3,700 civilians were killed and more than 6,800 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in 2014, according to official figures by the UN mission in the country.

Officials blame the attacks of Taliban insurgents and other armed groups for vast majority of the civilian deaths and injuries in the country.
