Guwahati: Two Indian Air Force pilots were killed in a plane crash near Jorhat in Assam on Thursday, official sources said.
The micro-light aircraft crashed soon after it took off from the Jorhat air base on a routine sortie around noon, they said. The wreckage of the plane has been sighted and a court of inquiry ordered, the officials added.
The officers were identified as Wg Cdr Jai Paul James and Wg Cdr D Vats. Local reports suggest IAF officials are at the crash site to assess the damage and for initial inquiry into the cause of the incident.
The Majuli Police have confirmed the incident and the deaths. An inquiry has been launched to ascertain the cause of the accident.
