Guwahati: Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, who is seeking a fourth straight term in the state, was among the early voters in first phase Assam polls today. A confident Gogoi addressing the media said,”I will be the chief minister again.”
Accompanied by wife Dolly and MP son Gaurav, the octogenarian Congress leader cast his vote at Debicharan Barua Girls High School in Jorhat town of eastern Assam.
Gogoi is contesting from neighboring Titabor constituency, also in Jorhat district. Talking to reporters later, a smiling Gogoi exuded ‘more than 100%’ confidence that the Congress will retain power.
He said, “People want change, but it must be for the better and not worse. People will vote for Congress again.
” Slamming BJP and its allies, he said, “The BJP is trying to make a khicidi government. They don’t have any vision and do negative propaganda.
” “People have seen what NDA did for the state or what PM Narendra Modi did in last two years. During Lok Sabha polls, Modi’s popularity was at its highest and now it is at its lowest,” he added.
Gogoi said he was confident of Congress retaining its stronghold in eastern Assam where polling is underway today and also fared better in western parts, where voting is scheduled in second phase on April 11 next.
