Hyderabad High Court demands report on Chittoor killings

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday Directed the Andhra Pradesh government to submit a report within two days on the killing of 20 woodcutters in an encounter at Chittoor.

The court has asked the government and the DGP of state Police to submit the report giving the details of Tuesday’s incident and whether proper supreme court guidelines were followed in the encounter.

The directive was given by the court on the basis of a petition filed by a Human Rights activist who demanded a CBI probe into the incident terming it as a fake encounter.

It was alleged that the police murdered the daily wagers in cold blood who were innocent.

On the other hand the Andhra Pradesh Government justified the firings as an act of Self defense.
