Humanity at stake: Bengal awaits justice


Kolkata: West Bengal known as the cultural hub of India, has witnessed a shocking surge in multiple cases of heinous crimes like murder, gang rapes recently.

Justice delayed is justice denied, although Rajib Das got justice after a delay of four years, many a cases like Kamduni gang rape, Barun Biswas murder case are still awaiting justice. Here are a few cases still awaiting justice:

  • Barun Biswas was murdered brutally when he protested eve teasing on July 5, 2012. Although police made some arrest, family accused the police of shadowing the murderers.


  • A college girl was gang raped in Kamduni village on Jun 7, 2013. An earlier reluctant police arrested the accused later bowing to public pressure. Case is still pending.


  • In a show of utter lawlessness in the state accused raped the victim again, after she lodged complains at Madhyamgarm. The victim later died. Police arrested the accused but the case is still pending.


  • On July 5, 2014 Saurav Das a college student was murdered at Bamangachi for protesting against anti-social activities in the locality. Accused have been arrested, case is still pending.


This shows the lawlessness and the tension among communities within the State. Numerous FIRs and complaints have been lodged but proper justice has not yet been given to the victims.
