HRD ministry asks UGC to look into St. Stephen’s harassment case


New Delhi: The Human Resource Development Ministry has finally intervened into the St. Stephen’s harassment case and has asked the UGC which is in charge of the Delhi University to check to progresses of the case with the internal complaints committee of the college.

The ministry has asked the UGC to make sure that the probe is conducted by the Internal Complaints Committee of the College “expeditiously” and “impartially”.

A police complaint was filed by a research scholar of the college who had alleged that she was molested by a professor of the college and when she complained about the matter to the college authorities, the Prinipal of the institution tried to shield the professor.

St Stephen’s Principal Valson Thampu has refuted the allegations and the claims made by the complainant. She said, “I have not heard about any tapes which has telephonic conversation between me and complainant. If these tapes were important why it was not been submitted to police as a proof.  He also added that the victim was being influnced by certain individuals.
