Paris: A man doused two people including a pregnant woman in petrol after taking them hostage in Paris on Tuesday.
He demanded that he be put in touch with the Iranian embassy to deliver a message to the French government, police sources said.
The area around the the Mixicom computer store in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, lose to the Gare du Nord Eurostar hub, was ringed off by police on Tuesday. A police source said the hostage-taker initially hit one person who was able to escape.
police source said he had asked to communicate with the Iranian embassy so that they could convey a message to the French government. Special units and fire services were at the scene.
Members of the elite Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) arrived on the scene with an armoured screen, pushing it towards the door in Rue des Petites Ecuries, where the siege was taking place.
