Honeypreet Remanded In Six-Day Police Custody

Chandigarh: A day after Honeypreet Insan, the “adopted daughter” and close aide of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was arrested, the Panchkula Court sent her to six-day police custody on Wednesday.

The prosecution had demanded 14-day remand, calling her “the closest aide” of the Dera chief. It said that Honeypreet was aware of the activities of the sect and the violence unleashed by its followers in parts of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, after the conviction of Ram Rahim that left 38 people dead and 264 injured.

On Tuesday, Honeypreet appeared in interviews on some TV channels, where she proclaimed her innocence, and described the allegations leveled against her as “baseless.” She said that she had been falsely implicated in the sedition case.

Honeypreet (real name, Priyanka Taneja), had been on the run for 39 days after Ram Rahim’s conviction in two rape cases on August 25.
