Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi Reviews Security Situation In Kashmir

Srinagar: In the wake of the Uri terror attack, overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was reviewed today as Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi met Governor NN Vohra as well as Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar.

Mr Mehrishi arrived in Srinagar early this morning, two days after four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists stormed an army base in Uri sector of Baramulla district and killed 18 soldiers, officials said. During his day-long visit, he called on the Governor and the Chief Minister and discussed the security scenario in the Valley.

“The Union Home Secretary discussed the matters pertaining to the prevailing situation in the Valley with the Governor and the Chief Minister,” they said.

Mr Mehrishi held a security review meeting which was attended by top officials from security forces, police and intelligence agencies.

The Uri attack and ongoing unrest in Kashmir, which began a day after Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8, were the focus of discussions, the officials said.
