Home Ministry Issues ALERT: Dead Animals Meat In Bengal’s Restaurant


Kolkata: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an alert to the police stations of west bengal, keeping in view the carcass meat industry.

The carcass-meat industry had grown both in size and profit in the last four years. Nine people have been arrested so far, including the three last week. According to the cops, the trio claimed the carcass meat was mostly of stray dogs and cats.

Huge amount of rotten carcass meat, including 1000 packets amounting to 20 tons from a Narkeldanga cold storage in Kolkata, was seized in a joint raid conducted by Kolkata and South 24 Parganas police. Raids and seizures were done in other locations as well.

The raids were conducted after tips from kingpin Sunny Malik, who was arrested in this connection from Bihar’s Nawada district.

Koteswara Rao, Superintendent of Police (South 24 Parganas) told mediapersons, “After arresting Sunny Malik from Bihar, we have raided several places last night in Kankinara, Tangra, Narkeld and Raja Bazar and arrested six people in this connection. We took Sunny to Narkeldanga Cold Storage where 20 tons of frozen meat divided in 1000 packets were seized.”

Stale meat was mixed with fresh meat after processing them, police said. Hindustan Ice & Cold Storage in Narkeldanga has been sealed. Corporation could not collect supplies as the cold storage has been sealed by police.

Police raided Raja Bazar, Tangra in Kolkata and Jagaddal and Kakinara in Hooghly district. Joint police operations were conducted in Diamond Harbour also.
