Bankura: The Holi Song Competition was organized in private initiative to restore the ancient traditions of the kings of the Bishnupur ‘Malla Raja’ of Bankura. Eight teams participated in this competition. The Bishnupur Youth Group and Chawk Bazar Sholoana Committee jointly organised the event.
According to district researcher circle, Holi songs were arranged before various programs of Krishnilila of the Mallar kings of Bishnupur. But later it stopped. Although the tradition was started for a number of years by the special initiative of Bibhutibhujan Goswami resident of Gopalganj town. After that, it was completely closed from the 1980s.
On behalf of the organizers, the organizer of Chowk Bazar Sholoana Committee, Bishnupur Municipality Vice Chairman Buddhodeb Mukherjee told reporters that this competition was held on the occasion of Shitala Puja before the festival of clour. This ancient custom was stopped for a long time. This initiative is aimed to bring back the custom.

Organizers further said, now eight teams have participated in this competition. In this, the first, second and third places were awarded.
