Srinagar: Security forces are on a high alert in Jammu and Kashmir’s on the death anniversaries of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on February 9.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested ahead of the death anniversaries of Guru and Bhat. Malik was taken into custody from the JKLF head office in the Abi Guzar area of the city, a police official said.
The security has been increased amid the possibilities of an attack by Jaish-e-Mohammad, a banned terrorist organisation set up Masood Azhar in 2000 after he was released by the Atal Bihar Vajpayee government, to mark the death anniversaries of Guru and Bhat.
Jaish-e-Mohammad returned to the Kashmir valley in 2014 and announced its new “Afzal Guru Squad” with an attack on Army camp in Kupwara on November 25, 2015.
Guru and Bhat were hanged to death inside New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013 and February 11, 1984, respectively.
