Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have beefed up security in city’s downtown Esplanade area for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s martyr day rally, which will be observed on Saturday, officials said.
All nearby roads, crossings and strategic points have been put under continuous CCTV surveillance. Following the recent stage debacle at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Medinipur sabha, more attention is being paid to the stage this year.
More than 100 CCTV have been installed beneath and around the stage. Over 5,000 volunteers will be deployed around the stage. The Public Works Department (PWD) and the police are keeping a close vigil on the preparations. Engineers are visiting the site on a regular basis to oversee the stage construction work.
police sources said that additional 600o police men will be deployed in the city. 21 guest house will be taken for TMC workers who will join the rally on Saturday. 18 Truma care ambulance will also present at the event.
Anticipating a heavy rush of commuters on July 21, the Metro Railway has decided to deploy additional security forces at different stations. Indrani Banerjee, the spokesperson of Kolkata Metro, said 350 Railway Protection Force personnel will be deployed at different stations.
