Kolkata: Heavy rain with storm hit Kolkata at Thursday midnight. Torrential rain hit the city along with strong winds and thunder. Downpour has also been reported in other parts of the Bengal.
The skies have been so dark since morning that drivers resorted to using headlights in the day time.Earlier, The MET office Kolkata in latest update forecasted light to moderate rain in Kolkata and the surrounding area on Thursday and five districts in west of West Bengal will witness heavy downpour.
A concentrated depression prevailing over Bay of Bengal which caused rain in most parts of South Bengal. Previously the Alipore met office said that depression will form over North Bay of Bengal which will affect districts of gangetic Bengal.
There is high chance of downpour in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Jhargram. Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and North and South 24 Pargana will have moderate rainfall.
The met office said there a cyclonic-circulation adjacent to depression. The monsoon axis line is prevailing over Bankura. West part will be affected due to this. An alert has been issued for the fishermen to avoid coastal side of sea.
