Kolkata: The Alipore Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted a heavy rainfall in the southern districts of West Bengal and Kolkata also. As several districts of West Bengal are already flooded due to heavy rain fall and they are still submerged, another round of heavy rain fall has raised tension among the people of the districts. In the next 24 hours, there is heavy rain alert in East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas districts.
As per the information of Regional Meteorological Centre, there is a whirl over North Bay of Bengal which is 4.5 kilometers above the ground.
Beside these, there is also a depression exist at northern Bay of Bengal from the foothills of the Himalayas. Due to these two the possibility of heavy rainfall has been increased. If the whirlwind comes closer to the ground level then heavy rain can continue till next 48 hours.
Following a dry spell for the last one week the rain has started hitting the city from early Thursday morning which blocks several busy roads of Kolkata. The inundated streets are M.G. Road, Theater road and Amherst Street. Beside these the rain water also affected some areas of South Kolkata like Jadavpur, Ganguly Bagan and Behala. The municipal corporation workers are working hard to reduce the water.
