Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has accepted the plea of Mao leader Chatradhar Mahato and will soon be hearing the case. Mahato and other jailed Mao leaders can now file for bail in the HC.
Mahato along with six others have been convicted of sedation and terrorist activities by a Midnapore court earlier and awarded life sentence. The court also found guilty Sagen Murmu, Sukshanti Baske, Sambhu Soren and awarded them the same.
Mahato was arrested in 2009 for his alleged involvement in a subversive activity as a Mao leader in West Midnapore’s Dalitpur area. He also fought election in 2011 Bidhan Sabha polls. Although Mahato was nabbed after the Mamata Sarkar came to power in Bengal. He was seen sharing stage with the current CM during the CPM era.
