HC ridicules State Gov and EC over Municipal Elections


Kolkata: PIL was filed in Calcutta High Court demanding peaceful and democratic Municipal elections. The High Court has asked for an affidavit in the case from the State Government and the State Election Commission. The PIL was filed by Indian science and Rationalist Association at the High Court.

On Friday, the hearing of the case was held at the High Court. The division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur demanded the affidavit at the beginning of the hearing. The court has directed the state government and the Election Commission to file the affidavit within six weeks. Apart from that the Court has also ridiculed the state government and the EC.

Questions have been raised over the effectiveness of the toll free number that was launched for the benefit of the voters.Allegations of violence during the polls have been leveled against the ruling TMC by the opposition throughout the state. At some booths re polling was also held after complains were received.
