Kolkata: Delivering another blow to West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra also an accused in the multi-crore Saradha Scam, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday placed him under house arrest.
However, the court said that in case of emergency Madan can leave his home but with police escort only.
The HC division bench of Joymalya Bagchi, hearing a petition filed by CBI against the bail granted to Madan Mitra by Alipore Court has ordered Madan to be placed under house arrest till the next hearing scheduled on November 17.
Madan Mitra an accused in the Saradha Scam was behind the bars for around 324 days before the Alipore Court granted him bail on October 31. The CBI probing the scam had than moved Calcutta High Court against the decision of lower court.
