Srirampur: Hastings Jute mill of Rishra was reopened on Saturday after three months of closure. The mill was closed down on June 1 after the workers clashed with the mill owners, due to which nearly 4500 workers lost their job. After the trilateral talks called by Labour Minister Maloy Ghatak, conditions improved and the mill was reopened on Saturday.
In November last year, 22 workers of the mill were terminated. The mill owners had assured that they would reinstate the workers in their job but even after several months the assurance was not fulfilled following which the workers Association took decision to stop work at the factory.
