Haryana Cabinet Appoints Geeta Phogat As DSP


Haryana: The Haryana cabinet on Tuesday approved the appointment of woman wrestler Geeta Phogat as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state police.

International wrestler Geeta Phogat won the country’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling in 55-kg category in Commonwealth Games in Delhi six years ago. The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Haryana, approved a Home Department proposal in this regard.

In the past, a number of international and national award winning sportspersons from Haryana have been recruited in the Haryana Police and the state government, including Olympic bronze medallist boxer Vijender Singh.
