Handwara Gunfight Over, Militants Escape

Srinagar: The government forces on early Wednesday called off the several hours anti-militant operation in Handwara village of Frontier district after the trapped militants managed to escape.

SP Handwara Ashish Mishra told that operation has been called off as militants have most likely escaped the encounter site taking advantage of darkness.

The gunfight had raged between forces and militants on Tuesday evening after the soldiers of 30 RR patrolling party was attacked by the militants at Ganapora near Yaroo area of Langate Handwara and the fire was retaliated which resulted into the gunfight for sometime.

Meanwhile officials in army also confirmed to that militants managed to escape from the spot so we had to call off operation.
