Guwahati: The Guwahati Siphung express derailed between Salakati and Basugaon in Assam’s Kokrajhar District on Saturday, injuring at least two people.PRO of the North East Frontier Railway, Jayanta Sarma, reportedly stated that five passenger bogies have been derailed.
The derailment occurred at 6 am due to a tree lying on the track near Champa Bridge.Police and railway officials have reached the spot. The incident happened over bridge number 422 between Salakati and Basugaon station in the Kokrajhar district of Assam at around 05-15 hrs. Five coaches got derailed and the engine capsized as a result of the derailment.
To cater to the injured people, the relief team immediately rushed to the spot. No casualties have been recorded yet. Four persons including Driver and the Asst. driver received minor injury and they were referred to hospital. High railway officials from Railway HQ, Alipurduar Division and New Bongaigaon immediately rushed to the site and started restoration work. As a result of the derailment train running over the UP line got affected.
