New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that the decision to hang Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru by the Congress-led UPA government was politically motivated.
Abdullah said that the government informed him only hours before the execution was scheduled to be carried out. Out for a dinner with his sister at a Delhi restaurant, Omar received a call from the then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde informing him that he had signed the papers for Guru to be hanged early next morning and asking him to make law and order arrangements.
on the other hand Congress rejects Omar Abdullah’s claim. Afzal Guru not hanged for “political reasons,” says Sushilkumar Shinde
Guru, who was at serial number 28 in the list of condemned prisoners, was hanged on February 9, 2013. A controversy broke out as his family got news of his hanging on television.
