Gulshan Terror Attack: 2 Years Of Worst Memory Ever


Dhaka: Significant and breath taking Gulshan terror Attack comes to its one year completion on July 1. The old premises of Holey Artisan Bakery and O’ Kitchen restaurant, which saw the worst ever terror attack in Bangladesh’s history two years back, opens on Sunday for four hours to allow relatives of the victims and visitors to pay their respects.

The site at road 79 in Gulshan-2 will remain open for visitors from 10am to 2pm.
Earlier in the day, Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia paid homage to the terror attack victims with a floral wreath at the premises.

The owners of the site decided to open the premises to mark the two-year anniversary of the Gulshan terror attack. This was the second time the site was opened to the general public since the incident.

It was previously opened on July 1, 2017 to mark the one-year anniversary of the attack. Currently, the two storey building is being used as a residence by the owners of the property.

Five terrorists participated in the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, 2016. They murdered 20 hostages, mostly foreigners, and shot dead two police officers. Bangladesh Army commandos stormed the restaurant the next morning, killed the terrorists, and rescued the hostages.

A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on July 4, 2016 and the police Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit took charge of the investigation.
Police found 21 people involved in the Holey Artisan attack, starting from its planning and preparation to execution. Of them, 13, including the attackers, were killed in action.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Benazir Ahmed said: “We will continue our operation until militancy is uprooted from the country.”

He added that RAB wants to jointly work with the people, and also with the other countries impacted by militancy, to uproot this menace.
