New Delhi: The Landmark GST bill on Wednesday got the support of the majority of the Rajya Sabha select committee which endorsed almost all the provisions of the bill while they also agreed to the demands of the parties like the TMC for a five year compensation to the states.
The committee was headed by BJP MP Bhupender Yadav. In its report submitted to the house, the committee suggested changes in the clauses pertaining to compensation and Levy of 1 percent additional tax by the states on the inter-state supply of goods.
The report has however received the dissent of opposition parties like the Congress, AIADMK and the Left. They have expressed their opposition to the GST constitutional Amendment Bill in the existing form.
The bill has already been approved by the Lok Sabha and now has been taken up for passage by the Rajya Sabha. The bill needs the approval of the two-third members of the Rajya Sabha since it is a Constitutional Amendment Bill.
