Kolkata: The ICDS employees of West Bengal will get one more holiday as informed by
Suvendu Adhikari and Sashi Panja on behalf of the West Bengal government.
According to the notification released, the DPO ICDS of all districts have been
directed to communicate to all CDPOs and field functionaries and Frontline workers
so as to ensure functioning of AWC on days other than marked holidays.
The AWCs will operate on all days in the current festive season except Saptami, Ashtami,
Nabami, Dashami, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja and Sundays.
Prior to this, they were allowed only four days holiday from Saptami to Dashami. The Anganwadi centres were supposed to reopen on Ekadashi. Apart from Sunday, their next holiday was on Kali Puja.
The Anganwadi workers and helpers will get holiday on Lakshmi Puja too.
State transport minister Suvendu Adhikari was attending a programme at Kandi where a group of Anganwari employees requested for a holiday on Lakshmi Puja as the Bengali girls usually have to perform Lakshmi Puja at home.
The minister assured to solve the problem and spoke to Sashi Panja to make arrangements for a holiday on that day, thus extending their Puja vacation by another day.
Sashi Panja accepted the requested and published a new holiday list on Sashti for the state Anganwadi workers and helpers. Apart from holiday from Saptami to Dashami, they will also get holiday on Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja. In the old notification, there was mention of Kali Puja as a holiday, but not Lakshmi Puja as a holiday.
Few months ago, the Asha and Anganwadi workers and helpers’ allowance were
increased by chief minister Mamata Banerjee. That increased allowance will get
deposited in their respective bank accounts from next month. Along with this, a
holiday will add joy to their festive season.
