Kolkata: The prime accused in the Girish Park shooting, Gopal Tiwari has been remanded to jail custody till June 10 by bankshal court on Friday. Tiwari who has been avoiding arrest, was nabbed by the cops on Thursday night. Following a tip off Lalbazar sleuths raided a hotel near a shopping mall at Teghoria around 10:05 pm and arrested Gopal.
Gopal has been absconding since his name surfaced in the Girish Park shootout. It is alleged that Gopal is close enough to ruling TMC, to avoid arrest. He has since been on the hid in a nearby state. The delay in arresting Gopal is also attributed to the pressure mounted by a section of political class.
According to Lalbazar another anti-social named ‘Hatkata’ Dilip was nabbed and provided vital leads. Sub-Inspector of Kolkata police Joggannath Mondal was shot at Girish Park allegedly by Gopal and his goons, during the municipal poll in the city.
