New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah insisted on Tuesday that “Congress would have gone to win Gujarat elections had some of their leaders not said certain wrong things.” However, he believed Rahul Gandhi and his team put up a good show there.
Not taking names but if some people wouldn’t have said certain wrong things Congress would have won in Gujarat, they managed a good show there,” ANI quoted Abdullah as saying.
Farooq’s reference was a clear reference to ‘Neech’ remark used by senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyyar for Prime Minister Modi ahead of elections. BJP attacked the traditional party for ‘dirty politics’ while Congress too refrained itself from Aiyyar’s remark. He was later suspended from primary membership of the party.
In response to the allegations put forth by BJP that Congress colluded with Pakistan to defeat BHP in Gujarat, Abdullah said, “Pakistan never hatches any conspiracy, I had went to Pakistan.”
BJP reclaimed the throne in Gujarat for sixth consecutive time after winning on 99 seats in assembly polls.
