Jalpaiguri: It is a good news for all tea garden workers that the West Bengal Govt hikes wage. A tripartite meeting between the Bengal Government, the managements of tea gardens and trade unions has settled for a hike in the daily wages of tea garden workers by Rs 17.50.
The revised daily wages will now be hiked from Rs 132.50 to Rs 150. The talks were held at Uttarkanya, the mini secretariat in Jalpaiguri. Now the State Government is also distributing 35 kg of foodgrain per worker under the Khadya Sathi Scheme.
Earlier lakhs of tea garden and plantation workers in West Bengal had decided to go on a 48-hour strike on June 12 and 13. It was announced at a press conference by the joint forum of about 24 Central and State-level trade unions.
